How Good Is The Arteon This Time Around?
I had the keys to this Arteon for a week. Here are my thoughts.
Some time ago, we test drove an Arteon to see how it was and it faired pretty well. Here is the link. Actually, it later became a benchmark for us in how things were seen with quality and price, and we loved it. Now, Volkswagen has sent us another one to see if it still has the same charm as before. So, is the Arteon still hold that special place in our hearts this time around? Let's see.
Exterior Styling
"...look like a..."
The exterior styling of the Arteon is just as elegant and beautiful as before with the flowing lines and smooth, yet sharp edges. The defining lines that run on the side profile between the front panel to the rear spoiler are the only things that give the Arteon its sharp edges. The final stroke of the painter's brush is the spoiler edge that makes the Arteon's rear look like a manta ray in the water.
Interior Design
"...where I can..."
The interior of the Arteon has slightly changed but in a good way. The old buttons and dials have been upgraded to touch-tone controls where I can slide my finger up or down to change the volume or slide across to lower or raise the temperature. The same goes for the steering wheel with the controls as well. They add flair to the styling of the interior and made it more modern and fanciful. The trim and panels blend perfectly together. The seats are comfortable and offer plenty of support. For cabin space, I can sit behind myself very comfortably while the trunk can hold a couple of suitcases for a trip or even a month's worth of groceries. The cherry on top is the ambient lighting that can be changed to various colors. All in all, it is nothing short of beauty inside.
Pricing and Options
So, how much does this Arteon cost? After adding it all up, the total cost comes to $44,985. What does that get for a potential owner? For safety and convenience, the Arteon comes with a Dynamic Road sign display, park distance control in both front and rear, rearview camera, an advanced airbag system, anti-slip regulation, engine brake-assist, electronic brake-pressure distribution, hydraulic brake assist, electronic stability control, electronic differential lock, intelligent crash response system, automatic pst-collision braking system, travel assist, adaptive cruise control, lane assist system, forward collision warning and autonomous emergency braking with pedestrian parking, active blind-spot monitoring, and rear traffic alert. For comfort and convenience, the Arteon comes with VW digital cockpit, wireless device charger, heated and powered front seats with memory driver's seat, infotainment system with Bluetooth connectivity, ambient lighting, and multiple USB ports.
Performance
"...tidy on leisurely..."
The 2.0L turbocharged 4-cylinder under the hood of the Arteon produces a whopping 268 horsepower to all four wheels. With my driving habits, I was able to achieve 19 miles per gallon. Ride comfort is great and sporty. The suspension not only keeps everything tidy on leisurely driving but tightens up and allows no drama while going into corners. Braking is stupendous as well with the Arteon not needing much force to come to a stop. Steering is as sharp as it is light but still offers plenty of feedback from the tires. Acceleration doesn't seem quick but it is linear. That is until you look down and the Arteon is doing quite the speed.
Conclusion
"...only thing missing..."
So, is the Arteon good this time around? In short, it is better. Much better. That is because the Arteon this time around has much more to offer than 2 years ago with the new technology it has to offer. The controls and ambient lighting make the Arteon feel like a luxury sedan but it is affordable compared to the rest of the vehicles available on the market. The only thing missing is ventilated seats for those hot summer days to cool down. I'd buy one if I had the money.

After owning 4 VW’s, I don’t really have a desire to own another. I have to give props to them though for still making/selling actual cars. I know they sell a lot of crossovers but I’m glad they still have something to offer to those of us who prefer to drive cars.
What a shame but indeed. Much props to them.
Im a second hand gti owner and although life has not been perfect with my hatch it’s been a good car. I’m interested in the reasons you won’t buy another and what you might buy instead.
Really nice car until I read 2.0T. I just don’t see paying over 35k for less than a V6. But I enjoyed the review and can see why this car would appeal to many that don’t focus on drivetrain.
Indeed. And thank you!
Easily the best looking VW on sale at the moment
It is a beauty.
This article made me excited about this model. The imagery painted with words about the styling of the exterior and the comfort and the functionality of the interior, as well as all of the built-in safety features working behind the scene, makes this a very attractive model for anyone in this type of market.
Awesome! And thank you!
One of the prettiest cars on the road- and it's not even in an outrageous price range. I'm not saying it's cheap, but I'd have it over most more expensive cars. If I had the money.
Indeed.
