How much power does a diesel hatchback need in order for it to be considered a "hot hatch"?

  • 150 hp max. It's not the horsepower that counts. It's the lightness and agility that make a hatchback hot

    • True, however what about 200 bhp plus lighness and proper handling and braking

    • 130hp...900kgs...0-100kph in 7.8 secs (which was brisk for 1985) and one of the greatest hot-hatches ever built.

  • Hot hatches should be about lightness...and a heavy diesel lump is a step in the wrong direction to start with.

  • In this current era, more than 200bhp (15 years ago the Fabia VRS absolutely counted and that only had about 135bhp I think)

    • Possibly low 200 would be ideal for daily use and the occasional fun drive
