The Mondeo ST200 is back and this time I'm putting the car through its paces on a dyno. The question is, how many horses have left the stable since the year 2000?

The numbers will reveal all...

  • You measured 169.37 hp at the wheels. Ford claimed 202 hp original is measured at the flywheel. It has not lost 31 hp.

    Dhhhhh?

Don't put this man in charge of ordering drivetribe biscuits.

    • Spot on Stuart! First thought I had. I recall the 200bhp at the flywheel. It is always c.15% less at the wheels. Obviously the presenter is not a ‘real’ motor technician, but I do admire the vids! 👍

    • Hi Ian, I am no oap hp nerdist. Dumped Ford after 17 years but it lived on in mechanical nightmares for a few years. I am pretty sure my Ford ownership contributed to my Mrs dumping me for Renault Clio 30 something 10 years younger guy.

  • This does not surprise me at all.

My car measured 197.4 with 7000 miles on the clock then when tested again with 22000 miles on the clock the reading was 226bhp 🤷‍♂️

    • Your car clairly has a way of self improving its own engine. Mine has no such futuristic capabilities. (Different dyno's might give different readout?)

    • I agree with you on that .

Could be the rolling road operator or even the outside temp there are so many factors.🤷‍♂️

  • When it was new Ford would have claimed 202 at the crank with no accessories on the engine. That's typical of how all manufacturers rate their engines. Not hp the wheels. You have to assume (guess) what the driveline losses would be when measuring at the wheels to get crank hp. 168 at the wheels would be right around 190-200 at the crank assuming a 15- 20% loss which is not unusual.

(Why's she walking around with a rusty motor bit, put her to better use, man)
