Hey, so I haven't posted here in a while, but recently I had a bit of a wave of inspiration to write about my dad's old E28.
The story goes like this, back in the 90's my dad's mom bought him his first car, it was a BMW 520i 1983. For the time that car was something special, since Latvia (the place i live in) had just gotten it's independance and import cars started showing up. Compared to other cars on the road, that BMW was a racecar. My dad has a lot of memories with this car.
Out of all his friends, he was also the only one to never really crash the car (except once in a snowbank while driving in winter with summer tires). But there was a situation where the car got banged up. The car got rear ended while parked on the side of the road by a drunk driver, but he fixed the car up and drove it for 3 months. After that, he started working at a company as a delivery driver, so they gave him a company car and he parked the beemer.
What happened after?
Well, nobody really knows. Nobody knows what happened to the car and where it went. My dad went to renew his license about 3 years ago and it turns out the car is still registered on his name. Since that, we know the cars VIN code and registration plate, the last technical inspection was done in 1995. I used a VIN decoder some time ago, so I know what rims it had, the paint, interior and everything, also had a limited slip diff. The decoder doesn't work anymore so I can't give you a screenshot.
How do you forget what happened to your car? Not sure, but my dad thinks he parked it at a relatives yard and the relative sold it off, we asked the lad and he said he doesn't remember. Realistically, there is no way that car isn't already recycled into a washing machine or something, but there's always a chance that it's rotting somewhere in a field, and I'm curious about it.
My dad later got an E34 that had a fate almost like this one, but that's a story for another day.
Thanks for reading.
P.S. The car in these pictures isn't actually my dad's E28 but it has the same paint and rims, I can't find a picture of the real one. Somehow we don't have a picture with that car, I've went through all the family albums.
