Corvette written off

If you walked past this Corvette you would think it's a pristine example but you'd be wrong. Underneath the immaculate bodywork lays one teeny, tiny crack that managed to completely write the car off. The owner called cdm85-251 posted up on the Corvette Forum with a detailed description explaining how the incident occurred.

Apparently a car in front hit a bit of debris which sent it flying under his. Unable to avoid it, it went underneath and bounced off of various parts under the body but luckily didn't cause any obvious damage. Being a smart person, he took it to the local dealer who gave him the bad news that he's got a big problem.

Whatever the debris was, it managed to make a small crack in the transmission tunnel situated underneath the car. Being sod's law, the part isn't serviceable meaning a cheap fix isn't an option. Luckily the owner has since been compensated by his insurance company and the car was put up for sale as damaged.

User cdm85-251 posted up saying:

"I had the misfortune of being on an extremely busy interstate about a month ago when a vehicle in front of me went over a large rock or chuck of something VERY hard. This interstate is eight lanes wide where I was at and vehicles were all around me doing 70+/- mph, so I had no where to go and I couldn't stop without causing accidents for others. I tried to straddle it, but it hit a number of places under the car, but luckily it missed anything with fluids. One big problem right now is the dealer has shown me pictures of a rear structural member that has a crack. They are calling it a rear transmission tunnel and indicating it is a non-serviceable part, not offered by Chevrolet. $7,600 damages without buying this part and the associated labor. Anyone have any similar experience?"
