1914 marked the first year of World War 1, World War One was a global war which originated in Europe, and it lasted from July 18th 1914 to November 11th 1918. Evidently, time has changed drastically since 1918... Cars, people, the way of living and our daily lives have changed in a very extreme and momentous way. After the first and the second World War, everything has shifted and changed for our good, and it has shown us that we have come a long way as citizens and people. WWI has helped many car brands become what they are now, and it has showed and proved that it impacted our transportation system widely. However, what if I told you that a significant moment in history that happened roughly 106 years ago, has impacted many car brands and still continues to impact us today...

Rolls-Royce Armoured Car

Rolls-Royce Armoured Car

Rolls-Royce has probably been here since the beginning, making it one of the best and most lasting car brands of all time. Still proclaiming and holding a vast and huge record of being one of the most known luxury car brands in the world. Yet, did you know Rolls-Royce made specific cars for the war, the British brand was called upon Britain themselves to create and supply a sturdy and dependable transportation vehicle. For the past eight years, Rolls-Royce had been producing this specific car, and it was one of the best at the time. Once the war broke out it did require some updates for the battlefield. They clambered armor on the coach-built bodywork giving it the name of the Armoured Car, so it can protect the soldiers and the body from debris and gun shots. Some of these Rolls-Royce Armoured cars even came with a rotating machine gun turret on the top as well.

WWI really put the Rolls-Royce company we know today on the map. The war played a huge part in helping the Rolls-Royce manufacture, by building the very famous reputation we know and love today. It assisted by making this brand into what it is known as today, which has affected our car community greatly. It is very shocking that such a notable company and brand helped many people 100 years ago, and they still continue to help many people today. Rolls-Royce have been here for quite a while, and they have established themselves as one of the best car brands across the globe. From being known as a car brand supplying vehicles to the war, to now being known as one of the most sophisticated and most luxurious car companies ever to have seen the light of day.

1916 Ford Model T Ambulance

1916 Ford Model T Ambulance

Ford, one of the most if not the most famous and well known companies and manufacture. A brand that has spread it name across the world, Ford has been such a significant and important part of history and car history as well. Ford, is an American multinational automaker that was founded by Henry Ford on June 16, 1903. Ford has also been here for quite a while, and they also supplied and assisted soldiers and many places with vehicles for the war. Henry Ford knew his notable and precious company couldn't stay out of the war for too long, which meant he needed to come up with something that will be stable, practical and useful. Ford was mostly producing cars for the armed forces. Later on, Ford made and produced cars that were more practical for war and battle. The ever so famous Ford Model T, became into a field ambulance for Red Cross, which was suited and used for injuries during the war. The 1916 Ford Model T Field Ambulance was a canvas on wood frame model, which was used extensively by the British, French and the Americans as well.

Ford had a very important contribution to the war, and they demonstrated at the time that they were a very loyal and sustainable company. Proving again, that WWI helped to achieve this goal for the company, it put out a name for them. Ford is such an important and significant company that really has changed the car and supercar game forever. Ford has innovated and shown to us how far we have come, from the first Model T to the newest 2020 Mustang GT. Becoming one of the strongest and most passionate car brands in history, we cannot thank them enough for all they have done for us costumers and car enthusiasts.

Renault was also a big contributor and a very big help in WWI, standing as one of the most famous brands at the time and today as well. The French brand obviously did contribute to the World War by supplying cars to the military, such as the other car brands on this list. Yet, the most important contribution Renault was able to do was supply tank's to the war, the Renault FT light tank was a huge help during the war. Achieving the name light tank due to being much more lighter than the British tanks, Renault made approximately and roughly about 3,600 of these tanks. This innovation from the French brand was very practical and useful due to their light body being able to achieve good speeds.

Once more, proving the point that War World One has many cons, but also some positives, which were that they helped to establish many famous and well known brands today. In addition, most of these brands have changed the car game and have shaped the way for our cars and driving styles today. Besides, they had a huge role 100 years ago, and they still continue to have a huge role and impact one hundred years later.

Now, BMW was never around in 1914, but BMW's roots and heritage started to develop during the time of World War One. In 1917 the company was named ‘Bayerishe Motorenwerke’, or ‘BMW’. The famous black and white badge represents the company’s roots and beginnings in the aviation industry. Surprisingly, BMW was not the only brand that also wasn't existing during the beginning World War One, but Citroën also had a lot of its beginnings and heritages from WWI. Post-war, many opportunities and sprouts occurred, with mass production becoming a huge part of life and now people erupting into a roaring era. Which caused many car manufacturers and companies to have a lot of help into establishing their brands. Including the French automobile manufacturer, Citroën, which was founded during 1919, also releasing their first production car in that same year.

1914-1918 was an era and time full of agony and distress, but you have to look at the positive, everything that happened was horrific, but there's always good that comes out of everything. World War One gave those companies more advantage, and they gave us and provided us with the companies and brands we know and love today. If that certain moment in history never happened, we would not have been the place we are in today. It assisted and helped all these brands to be put on the map and gain the name they have today. Which has given us the cars we know and love today. We look back, and we thank the people who have risked their lives in all the wars, they fought for us, our future and our freedom. Thank you.
