Over the last few years, Netflix has been keen to produce quality content for motoring enthusiasts surely in an attempt to compete with Amazon Prime and The Grand Tour.

In fact, we have already had the first season of Drive To Survive, a documentary surrounding F1 and the second season is currently being filmed. Now, the streaming service is preparing the debut of its latest car-based show, Hyperdrive.

It truly is a motoring take on Ninja Warrior as the program will travel the USA whilst many different drivers try to complete the qualification course as quickly as possible. After the qualifying rounds, the best of the bunch will go head-to-head in an attempt to win the grand prize, which Netflix is yet to reveal.

The show is being created with the help of Charlize Theron who is used to creating content for those of us that like cars and tend to wear anoraks. She has starred in many films focusing on cars including the Fast and Furious franchise. Although she appears briefly in the trailer, she will not be hosting the show. Those roles will be taken by Lindsay Czarniak, Rutledge Wood, Mike Hill and Michael Bisping.

The first season of Hyperdrive, which hits screens on August 21, will see a total of 28 people competing to win the title of Hyperdrive champion.

  • Every motoring/car TV series is another one and of those we can't have enough. Just like new 'top gear' it may not be very good and such, but it's a motoring series nonetheless.

  • Im not really a fan of this. I don't like the idea of making cars interesting by making them jump across rivers, drift through tight spaces and crashing into stuff. I would love a series with stories like those about Ferrari vs Ford at Le Mans. Lancia vs Audi in rally. Senna vs Prost in F1. This simply is "Fast and Furious" but without submarines, tanks, cops and Vin Disel
