Hyundai Announces EV Brand IONIQ
They are dedicated only to Electric Vehicles.
Hyundai Motor has announced that IONIQ will become its own brand. Wonhong Cho, the Executive Vice President and Global Chief Marketing Officer at Hyundai Motor Company, says that “The IONIQ brand will change the paradigm of EV customer experience.” Over the coming years, IONIQ will introduce a lineup of numerically named sedans and, of course, SUVs, even numbers for the sedans and odd numbers for the SUVs.
The first model will be the IONIQ 5 midsize CUV that will launch in early 2021. It's based on the concept EV ‘45' which was introduced in 2019. 1 year after the launch of the IONIQ 5, a sedan will join the IONIQ lineup, labeled as the 6. Following the IONIQ 6 will be the IONIQ 7, a large SUV in early 2024.
So, what's after 2024?
They aim to sell 1 million units of battery electric vehicles and take 10 percent share to become a leader in the global EV field by 2025. That's right everybody, it's another ambitious Tesla competitor. Hooray...
The words ion and unique are pushed together to create IONIQ, a name that was introduced in 2016 on the Hyundai IONIQ, a vehicle that offered hybrid electric, plug-in hybrid and battery electric powertrain configurations within just one body type. As for the logo, it's designed to look like the London eye when completely lit.
The London Eye
The IONIQ brand will transform the EV market, make electric vehicles affordable, stylish, and, most importantly, faster at charging. I believe it will be the more economical and reliable Tesla alternative.
