With Marvel on your side, anything is possible

The video below is the Marvel-endorsed trailer that accompanied the release of the 'Iron Man' special edition version of the Hyundai Kona crossover SUV. Picking up the baton from Koenigsegg, who recently unveiled the Ageras Thor and Vader, the release coincided with the opening day of Comic-Con San Diego 2018.

If at first you don't succeed, give it another bash

Hyundai clearly realises that not everybody will be overcome with an overwhelming desire to buy their latest crossover SUV immediately after watching that trailer. So, they released another one.

Or, if you struggle to stomach a full 100 seconds, here is the compacted 30-second version:

So the car, with its double Tony Stark endorsement, is very definitively Marvel-approved.

An SUV Crossover gets the Iron Man treatment

With all that fantastical pomp and circus, you would be forgiven for expecting the car itself to be a 2,000 brake horsepower spaceship covered in armour plating and rocket thrusters. If so, prepare to be somewhat underwhelmed.

The Iron Man treatment, as it turns out, consists mainly of slightly altering the shape of the lighting on the front of your SUV so that it resembles the metallic bloke ever so slightly. If you squint. A lot.

Iron Man, coming to a car dealership near you soon

Hyundai have promised to start selling the Kona Iron Man to us mere mortals some time next year, but have not released any actual specs for it as yet. Currently, the most brake horsepower you can get out of a Kona is 175, which feels markedly un-Marvel-like in its mediocrity, and that is even ignoring the fact that this is still, inescapably, a crossover SUV.

Maybe Hyundai will pull something out of the bag and blow us all away. Who knows?
