I collect 1:18 scale model cars. A favorite in my collection is the Porsche 917 LH #21 with the Martini Racing livery. In my opinion, the best view of that car is looking at it from above. You can truly see the beauty of those iconic stripes in their entirety. I was never happy with the way I had it displayed when it was just sitting on a shelf. I wanted to see the car from the top. I tried hanging it on a wall by itself, but it wasn't quite right. Then, I thought about mounting the model on something that resembled the livery and then hanging that on a wall, but what? The only thing I could think of was a custom painting which I was going to have to create. I knew absolutely nothing about painting though. Nothing... After a trip to the local art supply store, and a crash course from a very patient employee about acrylic paints I gave my idea a go. That was in June of 2020. Since that day I have created over 50 of what I now call "model mounted paintings."
