I got a new (old) car Pt 1

I've been very quiet for a while, I've just been busy with life things unfortunately.

Well, I sold the Golf after my trip to The Nurburgring and I wanted to replace it with something I knew I would enjoy and something I could play about with and make my own.

I knew what I wanted, I wanted another Honda, more specifically I wanted a Honda Civic EK with an Integra Type R DC2 Engine swap, so I didn't buy one. I came across a friends brothers EK9 which had a Honda K20 Engine Swap (2001-2006 Civic Type R Engine) but it had been forged and had a supercharger bolted to it, noww....this was perfect, I sorted everything out but then, the Deal fell through last minute, through no fault of my own which is the most annoying part..So i didn't buy that! I think I may have a few photos of this car but I'm not sure, I'll try dig them out before posting this.

Gutted.

Gutted.

Found them! I've decided to do this post in Part's because with buying any old car which has been modified by someone else, there are problems that you find, botches that you find and just general laziness from the previous owner and like my reviews, I want to be brutally honest with it.

The new (old) car.

The new (old) car.

So here it is, no it is not a Civic EK like I wanted but infact it is a 1992 Honda Civic EG5, it left the factory with a 1.6 Single Cam Vtec engine, producing around 130bhp. Luckily the car had a special feature that lured me in, it has a JDM Integra Type R (B18C) engine fitted under the bonnet, I drove to Sheffield to view the car, I know the wheels are awful, once I arrived the car was on the drive under a cover which showed me that it was a car that he liked and looked after, so I thought.

Anyway we lifted the cover off and it revealed that the Civic had a Carbon boot fitted and a Carbon spoiler, which was a bonus, I had no idea of this! 1990's Honda's suffer from mega rust and the rear arches and sills are the worst, but this EG had already had replacement arches and sills and it had been done professionally which was the 2nd most important part after the engine swap so I took it for a test drive and scared the owner enough for him to tell me I'm a lunatic and he couldn't wait to get out the car when we got back. I got the car home all good no issues the only thing I hated was those wheels, they look red-ish on the above photo but they were actually orange, yes orange, who does that!?

First job

First job

The weekend arrived and the first job was on! paint them wheels so I can actually drive the car without bowing my head in shame as people turned there head in shock at how orange the wheels look.

I know, how nice is that colour?! It's actually a custom Grey which I thought was a brilliant idea at the time, until I thought about what if I kerb a wheel? luckily we have 300ml of paint left! so I think I'll be okay for a few touch ups if I need it (which i do)

Well there is my new car, its not to some peoples taste and I get asked, why did you sell your Golf for that? My answer, because it's fun, its easy to work with and I can make it my own. Keep posted for Part 2, I will go into a bit more detail including modifications on the car and Problems that have shown themselves...old car problems.

  • That's seriously smart! Though you're right, black alloys are definitely the way forward - too many Nissan 'perosnalisation'' vibes off the orange ones for my taste haha. How are you enjoying it? Nice to see you back :)

    • Enjoying it enough, I don’t plan on keeping it for long though, going to tidy it up and enjoy it for a bit and then sell it on! Sounds daft but hey ho! There’s too many cars I want to try. Thanks, good to be back-ish! I’ll try and keep on top of posting...
