Iconic 037 to make a comeback thanks to Kimera Automobili
And it's not an EV
Kimera Automobili, a car manufacturer based in Northern Italy, is gearing up to unveil the EVO37, a modern tribute to the Lancia 037, the last 2WD car to have won a WRC title. Kimera has already done the same thing with the Stratos and the Delta and I guess they've saved the best for last.
To make sure the new car meets expectations, the company has hired engineers that have worked on the original 037 including Claudio Lombardi, the man who designed the WRC-winning engine in the 037, and you'll be happy to learn that the 'EV' part of the name does *not* stand for electric vehicle, as the EVO37 is rumoured to be equipped with a 2.0-litre engine, which is both turbocharged and supercharged, sending 550 hp to the rear wheel, courtesy of an old school manual transmission. If you can't be bothered to change gears, an automatic gearbox will also be available. And the best thing is the car only weighs 950 kg.
The EV037 is scheduled to be revealed on May 22, with production set to commence later this year. Only 37 units will be made, plus 10 more which will be fitted with the 'Integrale' four-wheel-drive system. Price is TBA but you're looking at the least half a million euros.
