If I were the Sultan of Brunei, this is what I'd do
We saw a flash of the most beautiful car in decades. It can't be allowed to quietly disappear
To be honest, I’m not really sure what a Sultan of Brunei does, or whether I’d make a good one. What I do know is that it’s a ticket to an amazing car collection, abetted by the fact you can call up Bentley and not only will they answer the phone, they will be receptive to the point of making a bespoke SUV. That’s right. There was a Bentley SUV before the Bentayga.
This is obviously a tremendous power to wield, but I’d put before anyone considering electing me as Sultan of Brunei an example of how I’d use it well. I’d ring Mercedes and ask them to make 30 of these:

It’s the Maybach Vision 6 Concept which Mercedes aptly showcased at the celebration of elegance, the Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance in 2016. I don’t know what you thought, but I immediately saw the next Gullwing. The next 540K Autobahnkurier. It was a car which Mercedes claimed was inspired by superyachts, and had breathtakingly ridiculous lines and proportions not seen since the unbridled art deco magnificence of the 1930s. Goodness, I knew it was impossible. I knew that these days, car makers please and satisfy, not awe. It was just a moment of gloriously majestic folly, a brief dressing in Edwardian garb and coming out to the dining room before going and changing into the blazer and jeans.
I still look at images of it though, and every time I do, I dream of being the all-enabling Sultan of Brunei. I would ask for 30 – and then sell 28 into the world, cementing it in automotive history books under the 2010s as a production car.
