if music genres were cars
I had a thought recently that if music genres were cars, which ones would they be?! so i decided to research my thoughts further!
Pop
Pop in general is like Ferrari, it has always been popular and always will be! Because it appeals to a wide variety of people, such is the brand name of Ferrari! If you conduct a survey most people will be familiar with Ferrari rather than other supercar brands such as Lamborghini, McLaren and Bugatti! Ferrari has a wide fan following all around the world of owners and fans in general! Ferrari is a name that people all around the world will know in the same way people all around the world can name the latest Justin Bieber song( i think it's Despacito). But again people, enjoy songs that are popular now and then soon they will be forgotten which is a similar case to Ferrari where people don't remember some of their older cars like the 599, 550, 360 and so on. Also many different remixes of pop songs are made by DJs in the same way Ferrari makes different editions of it's cars.
Jazz
Jazz is now a format of music that has grown less popular with the likes of Sinatra, Dean Martin, Louis Armstrong and Tony Bennett becoming less and less popular with the young folk. So the Rolls Royce Ghost is a car for people with exquisite taste, people who choose not to buy a Mulsanne, Maybach, S class, 7 series or the A8 (the Ghost is in a class above some of those options). So these days Jazz is listened to by people with fine tastes, people who wear suits and gowns, gentlemen and gentlewomen! It is not a common music genre and in the same way the Ghost is not a popular car (for other reasons). Though the Ghost and Jazz have fewer fans than other genres, they have many admirers and people widely respect them.
Rap and hip-hop
Rap/hip-hop is a genre that has divided people in many ways. Some love it and are passionate about it whereas some consider it a nuisance with the way people turn it up while in public places. I don't hate rap or hip hop because they are genres I simply do not understand and everyone is entitled to their own opinion. So I thought rap and hip hop would be best represented by a traditional boy racers car, it is loud, brash and divides opinion where some show their appreciation for it while other harbour hatred towards it. However it is genre that has seen a stark increase in popularity over the last two decades or so I'm not sure what that says about tastes.
Classical
If the Jazz is represented by the Ghost, classical would be represented by the Phantom because if few people listen to Jazz even fewer listen to classical. In the same way few people can afford a Rolls Royce Ghost, fewer still can afford a Phantom! But one thing in common to the people who listen to classical and jazz is that they have good taste which is respected by other people and it is something that sets people apart from the crowd. If a survey is conducted few people will be familiar with the model range of Rolls Royce in the same way few people can name pieces by Beethoven, Mozart, Chopin and Tchaikovsky let alone the lesser known classical artists. For this reason classical is the RR Phantom.
Rock
Like rap, rock is a genre that divides audiences with some big fans of it while others get a headache listening to it! So I went for the muscle car and more in particular the Ford Mustang which has a large fan following as well as a large group of haters. Muscle cars have been around for a long time in the same way rock music has been popular for a long time but what both of them have in common is that they have divided opinions and will continue to do so for years to come!
Opera
Some say opera is the pinnacle of music and in the same way Lamborghinis are the ultimate expression of what a car can be. Opera appeals to a very selective group of people and even more selective is the amount of people who can sing opera. In the same way few people are big Lamborghini fans and even fewer own them! In the same way people wish they could sing like Andrea Bocelli, they wish they could own a Lamborghini. It is the stuff dreams are made of! Opera and Lamborghinis appeal to a selective audience and it is their selectivity that separates them from the crowd.

I hope you enjoyed my article and if you agree or disagree with my choices please let me know in the comments. I chose these genres because they have been or are are very popular, I have not written about a few genres which I do acknowledge but maybe they will be a topic for another article!

Country music is and always will be a garbage truck loaded with sreaming, stinking excrement.
Hip hop would be a GTR (or in fact anything) with Liberty Walk Bodykit
Pop music is a VW Golf 1.4
Ferrari's supposed to be classical
Ford Capri is Prog Rock
VW Beetle is german Marschmusik
Nice choices and thanks for reading!
And the Miura would be early Led Zeppelin or The Who.
so whats heavy metal then? i will tell you its a dirty flat black mercury v8 with a supercharger and skulls everywhere. pop music is a smart car. as JC called when they came out on top gear. also jazz is more of a spyker c8 or a saab rather than a rolls
thank you. Adding two Rolls Royces for both Jazz and Classic is stupid. They are essentially the same, one is just for the wealthy market and the other for the super wealthy. Spyker is like the definition of Jazz, it's somewhat classy, but...

Pop: Popular music. What the masses listen to. Always aimed at the youth of the moment. Do you see the majority of teens and young adults drive down the street in a Ferrari?
That is one perspective but I chose Ferrari because everyone knows Ferrari but comparatively people haven't heard of Lamborghini etc. Its just like how most people know who Justin Bieber and Taylor swift are. I didn't go for the common car...
Read moreI reckon prog rock would be something beyond its time and absurd. Like 70s Citroens or the Mitsubishi starion.
Metal would have to be something in your face, loud and incredibly aggressive so mabye an AMG Merc or a Viper
70s Citroens are good for prog rock and definitely a Viper would suit metal more than An AMG car because those have become a bit subtle now
