Im late to the party, I know. But recently, I read that Infiniti is toying with the notion of adapting more F1 inspired tech into thier road cars. The example given is the Infiniti Q60 Black S model. Now how this technology will trickle down to the not-so-average Joe has yet to be officially revealed, it did spark an interest in my mind. Most of us has heard of regenerative braking found in F1 cars, and Toyota used something similar in the Prius, however, this "Dual Hybrid Energy Recovery System" is said to utilize excess heat and kinetic energy to increase the acceleration and performance.
This got me thinking, naturally, of using the stored energy from braking and such to make up for the lulls in the engine's performance to deliver smoother and more acceleration, and improve efficiency. Imagine a relatively inexpensive car that has seamless acceleration, and impressive power and still is in a platform that resonates as a sports car? How cool would that be?
My biggest issue I've had with hybrid cars is the lackluster performance, and the dismal appearance. They just weren't fun cars. That bothered me. I remember thinking, "why cant they make it fun?" But seeing this, has made me reconsider the possibility of a great performing vehicle, with improved efficiency and the aesthetic of an aggressive, sporting car. Seeing this makes me hopeful of the near future, and puts at ease, my love of a throaty V8 engine-powered sportscar. I may finally be able to have the enjoyment of what a sporting car offers, in a car that has near-bleeding edge technology.
