I'm thinking of getting an Alfa as my first car...is it a good idea? If it is, hopefully, which one is good for this?

  • Also as a first car, I wouldn't actively advocate an Alfa though... Toyotas, Hondas, and Fords are usually the best for first-time drivers.

  • It depends on the car, your region, your wallet status, your mechanical knowledge, and so on. But quite a lot of Alfas will mostly suffer from rust, mechanical and electrical gremlins, it is good to have some basic car knowledge to 'fix' it yourself as you can't visit your mechanic every time some strange light appears on the dashboard. Also, it is good to have and know an Alfa specialist near where you live.

  • Going by this country (UK) the only one you would be able to realistically afford on insurance is a base spec 147, or a MiTo. Obviously the smaller the engine, the cheaper it will be but I don't know how insurance works in other countries
