Galpin Auto Sports is the special department of the Galpin Motors dealership in Los Angeles which has been involved in upgrading Ford vehicles since 1946. One of the most renowned tuners of the US brand, in 2009 he collaborated with the United States Air Force to build a special version of the Ford Mustang.

Named X1 in honor of the original Bell X-1, the first aircraft to exceed the speed of sound, and designed to be exhibited at the 2009 Super Car Tour, the car was recognizable by the new aerodynamic carbon fiber body kit which incorporated new doors with scissor opening. The engine was fitted with a Ford Modular V8 4.6 upgraded to deliver the power of 500 hp and to improve the handling of the car, sports suspension specially designed by Eibach was fitted behind HRE Performance alloy wheels.

But the real novelty was the cockpit built with the collaboration of military aviation technicians to make it look as much as possible to that of a fighter jet. The dashboard is equipped with three different screens that allow not only to set the vehicle parameters and use the GPS, but are also designed to connect with external cameras that use thermal and night vision functions. The various functions of the X1 were also manageable through special buttons placed around the screens, just like on military aircraft, and an authentic joystick was used to steer.

  • I remember that when ot came out. I thought that was pretty cool. They also had a Dodge Challenger called "Vapor". It looked like a stealth plane.
