In pictures: IMSA at Laguna Seca MEGA gallery
My favorite photos I took at the IMSA WeatherTech round at Laguna Seca, featuring some of the coolest cars...in the world
The race winner, the Wayne Taylor Racing Acura DPi of Ricky Taylor and Felipe Albuquerque
This past September, I once again ventured to Laguna Seca to photograph the IMSA WeatherTech Series, one of my favorite racing leagues on the planet at one of the most beautiful and unique race tracks in the world. Filled with great racing from start to finish among four different classes, and with some of the coolest race cars today, it's hard not to love IMSA, itself basically the American version of Le Mans racing (its former name was the American Le Mans Series after all).
A year ago was the scene of my ambitious first attempt at being a semi-serious motorsports photographer in a pandemic-marred 2020. Easily becoming the highlight of that year, being up close to racing fueled my fire even, basically adding 110 racing octane to ignite. It's awesome to be able to return to the scene of that experience nearly a year later and with the same cars once again, presenting an opportunity to try new things as I've grown as a photographer. Having relaxed Covid restrictions was nice, too, as the entire paddock and garage spaces last year were completely closed-off.
