In Search of the Perfect Daily Car

Are you confused ? We certainly are.

1w ago

We all have planned out our dream garage, before. Many times. A whole load of exotic cars- some off-road monsters, but in the end we all have to pick a daily car. If you are like me, who unleashes their inner seven-year old while picking cars for a dream garage, you pick something like a mad AMG Wagon.

There are some obvious issues with the AMG Wagon and cars of that sort

And it is not a perfect daily. It is a sports car in a daily driver's skin.

Finding perfection is no easy job...

But we tried to find it.

The Fuel Injection Team, were asked to submit their opinion on a perfect daily driver. Before I start this I must thank Tejas Kokcha for allowing me to use his idea in a post.

And be sure to visit the Fuel Injection Tribe!

Lets start off!

Me, Jonathan T

Most know that I am the E63 AMG Wagon's biggest fan. But hey, there are obvious flaws, £100,000 price tags, £10,000 parts, rock hard suspension, terrible fuel economy.

It is a heavily funded discomfort.

The perfect daily driver is something in between a boring Commuter car and a big smokin' V8 hustling, four door wagon. An obvious contender was the Kia Stinger GT, but it was expensive, and it was not what I wanted.

I chose the 2019 Skoda Octavia RS 245 Estate. I'm in the fast station wagon club, now.

Powered by a 2.0 litre inline 4, it produces 245 horsepower, 25 horsepower over the standard RS. Despite being front-wheel-drive, it does 0-60 in 6.6 seconds and can comforably do 155 miles an hour, while being fuel efficient and cheap. And the estate, body style increases practicality.

And if you think that 245 horsepower is not enough, you can get an APR tune, and increase power rating to 416 horsepower !

Hugo Taylor- Volvo S60 Polestar engineered

For a daily car, I like something comfortable, efficient and fun. It also has to have a nice interior too, so I think the best daily car is the Volvo S60 Polestar engineered.

It is a hybrid - yes, but it is fast, looks brilliant is a nice place to be and doesn’t drink too much petrol. As it is a hybrid, it can produce around 400bhp and if your commute to work is around 27 miles, you could do it on electricity alone.

I also think that Volvo make the best interiors of the market. It takes the minimalism of a Tesla but it isn’t Spartan - it’s simple yet an unbelievably nice place to be!

That’s why I believe that the Volvo S60 Polestar Engineered is the best daily driver. Even if you don’t have the money for a Polestar Engineered S60, you could get the base S60 and it is still a brilliant car.

The S60 Polestar Engineered checks all of my boxes for a daily driver: Fun, efficient, fast, comfortable, a nice place to sit and it looks brilliant.

Rahil Hashmi- BMW M8 Convertible

In my opinion, the perfect daily driver is something like the BMW M8 Convertible. Now, although most rear passengers will be robbed of all leg-room, this won’t really matter for me purely due to the fact that I don’t need to carry people in the back.

So, why the M8? Well, I’d choose an M8 because of it’s perfect balance between comfort and performance. Furthermore, an M8 is one of the fastest cars that doesn’t actually look like a supercar.

Rahil Hashmi

Fair enough Rahil- your choices are as quirky as you state in your bio.

Marcus Milligan- Some Modern Hot Hatch

The perfect daily for me would be a hot hatch of some sort, the modern ones have easily enough power to have fun while still being practical and not to expensive. - Marcus Milligan

I think that you are looking at a GTi or a Type-R

Daman Matharu- BMW M5

M5 , it’s got 600hp, yet doesn’t impede on daily comfort.- Daman Matharu

Mason Bloom and Leila Lopez Marks- Volkswagen Golf GTi

Two people here chose the same car. Both of them went for the Golf GTi.

Why the VW Golf GTI SE is the ultimate daily driver

While there is a lot of debate surrounding the what is best daily driver, it seems quite clear to me that the Golf GTI SE is the best daily. It looks very unique compared to other hatches, with its chromed rims with black accents, the red trim around the nose, and the iconic GTI badge. While it is FWD, it still produces a satisfying 228 horsepower from its 2.0L I4 available with a 6 speed manual. It is also very practical - it has two rows and a decent trunk. The GTI can also provide 24 MPG in the city, and 32 on the highway. - Mason Bloom

I think the perfect daily car is a VW Golf GTI. It's peppy, looks good, has retro styling cues (ie the plaid seats and the golf ball gear shift knob), and is relatively inexpensive to buy and maintain. Also, it's the queen of hot hatches, so it'd kind of be idiotic not to get one. And it comes with a manual transmission so it's more fun to drive than a normal auto car. - Leila Lopez Marks

Max K- Aston Martin Vanquish Zagato Shooting Break

For your series for daily cars, my choice would be an Aston Martin Vanquish Zagato shooting brake. Elegant, luxurious, practical, ultra-rare, all in V12 goodness. And being an Aston, comfort is valued over sportiness so its definitely suitable for a great daily.

Quite literally , one of the most beautiful cars ever made.

  • Stinger GTS? Cheap, sporty, fun, KIA. That's the perfect daily.

  • Here in America I would chose a Focus ST. It won’t break the bank, its a reliable Ford, and if something does break it’ll be cheaper to maintain than a foreign brand.

For you Europeans though, I’d have to agree with Mason and Leila. GTI’s are wonderful cars.

  • Turbo 4 rotor. Trust, you’ll only need to rebuild the motor every 80,000 miles. King of reliability.
