Wayne Rooney is regarded as one of the best footballers of his generation. Rooney has featured at the 2006, 2010, and 2014 World Cups and was widely regarded as his country's best player. He's also a record breaker too. With records like England national team all-time top scorer and Most Premier League goals scored for one club, Rooney has stunned the football world. Rooney was banned for driving for two years in 2017 and is now allowed to drive as of 2020.

Although he's not in his prime, in 2019 the Englishman earned $26 million - that's a lot of money.

So with all that cash in his wallet, he's bound to have some interesting cars in his garage. Here's five cars that Wayne Rooney had owned:

BMW i8

The BMW i8 is a staple of BMW's commitment to a sustainable future. It was revolutionary for its time in 2014, where the world started to realise that electric cars were the way to go in terms of future mobility options.

Although it looks quick and has very futuristic looking panel designs, the i8 only has 350bhp - which is still a handful. Its design is heavily influenced by the BMW M1 Homage concept car, which in turn pays homage to BMW's last production mid-engined sports car prior to the i8: the BMW M1. This speedy supercar is economical too. With an average of 29 miles per gallon, which is six gallons more than the latest Mercedes AMG GT.

Rooney sold his i8 in January 2018 to a trusted Blackpool dealer who listed it on Autotrader for £64,995. Not bad for a four year-old hybrid supercar.

BMW ceased production of the i8 just a few weeks back in April 2020 - let's hope the next car will be as revolutionary as the last.

Bentley Continental GT

Who didn't expect the Continental on this list? Rooney bought a bright orange Continental in early 2017 and it's pretty good. He paid more than a quarter of a million pounds for it and we can see why. With over 500bhp, the GT has a 0-60 mph time of four seconds and has a top speed of a dizzying 192 mph.

In the 17 years the Continental has been in production it has received mixed reviews. It has always been billed a footballers car and anyone who buys it must be a footballer or the wife of one. In recent years however the general public perception of the Continental has altered quite a lot.

Richard Hammond, Jeremy Clarkson and James May said their love for the Continental came to be overnight. In 2015, the Continental received a much needed facelift and featured a few improved parts that the Continental failed to provide the first time.

Ford SportKa

This is unexpected. When Rooney was playing for Everton all those years ago, Ford gifted him a blue KA. Rooney reportedly drove the Ka as long as he played for Everton, a team that he supported since he was a boy.

This particular model, which was introduced in 2003, features a sporty body trick, a wider tyre tread, stiffened suspension and 16" alloy-wheels. It's also a beast under the hood too. With a 93bhp engine and has a 0-60 mph time of 9.5 seconds. The SportKa was noted for its surprising advertising campaign, "The Ka's Evil Twin", denouncing the Ka's traditionally perceived "cute" design.

Aston Martin Vanquish

Big shot footballer or James Bond? Wayne Rooney bought the new Vanquish S in 2005 and came with a six-litre V12 producing 460bhp. When it made its debut at the 2004 Paris Motor Show, it took the world by storm.

Visual changes from the normal Vanquish included new wheels, a slightly different nose shape, a new raised bootlid, a Vanquish S badge on the bootlid and the addition of a small front splitter, mainly done for aerodynamic reasons. With a 0-60 time of just 4.5 seconds, it's no slouch.

The V12 Vanquish S, at time of release, was the fastest Aston Martin ever made. The Vanquish S has a top speed of 200 mph and that record would only be beaten when Aston Martin made the One-77 in 2008.

Lamborghini Gallardo Spyder LP560-4

What would a footballer's car collection be without a Ferrari or a Lamborghini? The Gallardo LP 560-4 Spyder was unveiled at the 2008 Los Angeles Auto Show as the replacement for the previous Gallardo Spyder. It's the convertible model of the Gallardo LP 560-4 and featured: the new uneven firing 5.2 L V10 engine, improved E-gear transmission and a 20 kg weight reduction. Performance was improved too. The Spyder can go from 0-60 mph in 3.8 seconds, 0-124 mph in 13.1 seconds and has a top speed of 201 mph.

Rooney even gave the Gallardo to friend Carlos Tevez after he was bullied driving an Audi. Tevez told ESPN: "At Manchester United training, players would turn up with a Ferrari or a Lamborghini". Rooney lent Tevez his Lamborghini so that he wouldn't feel left out.
