Intercontinental GT: Strakka Racing fastest in California 8 Hours qualifying
Three Mercedes-AMG cars clocked the three fastest average times during qualifying for the Laguna Seca Raceway California 8 Hours. The fifteen fastest cars – all GT3 machines – will now participate in the Pole Shootout session later today.
The fastest average time was a 1m24.903s lap by the drivers of the No. 43 Mercedes-AMG Strakka Racing machine driven by Raffaele Marciello, Maxi Goetz and Lewis Williamson, just edging in front of their Mercedes-AMG colleagues of the No. 175 Mercedes-AMG Team SunEnergy1 Racing (1m25.029s) and the No. 44 Strakka Racing machine (1m25.079s). Eleven of the GT3 cars were within the same second on average, which holds a lot of promise for this afternoon’s Pole Shootout.
The class pole positions were also decided in the qualifying session. In GTC the No. 6 US RaceTronics Lamborghini of Richard Antinucci, Steven Aghakhani and Taylor Proto was quickest, GT4 pole position goes to the No. 51 Team Panoz Racing Avezzano of Ian James, Preston Calvert and Matthew Keegan, while TCR honors were taken by the No. 99 Bryan Herta Autosport Hyundai of Mark Wilkins, Michael Lewis and Mason Filippi.
“The i30-N is a real competitive car, both in sprint and endurance racing,” said BHA’s Wilkins. “The main issue for this 8-hour race will be tyre longevity, we’ll try to keep out of trouble and get the best result possible.”
