iOS 12 lets you record police interactions

In Apple's latest software release is a brand new feature on all iPhone devices called Shortcuts. This app allows the user to create their own scripts which can be activated easily by tapping a button or calling upon our good friend Siri.

This new app can be used to set up nearly anything the user needs. Some use it to work in sync with their home tech so each morning the lights come on and a song begins to play. But Robert Petersen created a much more useful shortcut called Police that will take precautions for you as a civilian if you are about to be pulled over by the police.

The steps your iPhone will take

As soon as you say something along the lines of "Siri, i'm getting pulled over" your iPhone will turn it's brightness down as low as it can, mute any music playing and automatically put itself into 'Do not disturb' mode.

It will then send a text message to your predetermined contact to tell them that you have been pulled over by the police whilst letting them know your exact location.

Finally, using it's front facing camera; your iPhone will begin to film the Police interaction. Then once the recording is stopped it will send this video directly to your predetermined contact and also save a copy of it on Dropbox.

These days Police in most countries are beginning to wear body worn cameras when they are out on shift. This ultimately films any and every interaction with civilians so that in the event of a crime they have first hand evidence. This works in exactly the same way only from the civilians point of view.

"one woman planned on using the shortcut to help with a stalker issue she was having with an ex-boyfriend so that she could send her location to family quickly should anything occur," Petersen said.
