Is Budkowski joining Renault?

On "gardening leave" for three months raises high concern within Formula 1 Teams

3y ago

Rumour has emerged today saying Marcin Budkowski (former FIA Head of Technical) would be joining Renault in the near future, raising high concerns among Formula One team principals due to the level of information involved. (find further information on the link above)

A three months gardening leave is agreed by most team principals not to be the appropriate time for a transition from FIA to a private team.

Latest statments by team principals:

"We take major issue with that, if he does end up in another team..." "I think three months' notice period for him to then turn up in a competitor team in Formula One is entirely inappropriate, so I certainly hope that isn't the case and I'm sure it will get discussed quite seriously at the next Strategy Group meeting". Christian Horner, Red Bull team principal said.

Mercedes, Toto Wolff stated: "We need to be transparent with the FIA and give the access, and therefore in order to have the full trust of the teams it is important to have a certain stability and understanding about how quick someone can leave the FIA and join another competitive team."

  • Surely to god his contract with FIA has a clause to stop this. 1 year would be expected.

    • From what I've heard he was hired under Swiss law and apparently three months is all they can legally give. I could be wrong though so don't take my word for it.

  • Christian is just pissed they didn't think of it. He actually said if we had thought of it we had offered him the position...
