Is Ferrari testing a V6 turbo hybrid engine?

Sounds like a rather new powertrain not seen in a Ferrari rolling out of the gates at Maranello.

YouTuber Varryx parked his spot in probably the best place to learn if Ferrari has some V6 turbo hybrid powertrains rolling around - the front gates at Ferrari's Maranello factory.

In his video above, you can tell the exhaust not isn't very V8-y, it isn't even very twin turbo V8-y. Rumors are the powertrain will come trinkled from the 2.9liter twin turbo V6 from the Alfa Romeo Giulia Quadrifoglio.

Take a listen to the video above and let us know what you think in the comments below!

  • Why not, they killed the gated manual. The V8 might as well go too.

  • Whatever. Why not go with a 6 cylinder? It’s smaller and lighter. It makes sense to me. Different sound but this is now. V8 is overkill now for most applications. Ford gt and Nissan GT-R as examples

    • I agree. We are all fixated on V8, V10 etc etc. however, automakers are doing more with less. Why not have a powerful turbocharged 4 or 6? Lighter and more efficient

  • Another one bites the dust. It’s sad but it’s a sign of the times.

  • It's has the electricity warning on the open door so ... yes. But those are massive intakes. Must do a lot of heavy breathing.

  • It sounds alright. It doesn't sound like a Ferrari.

The gas mileage will be acceptable. That, unfortunately, isn't part of the Ferrari formula.

It'll be just as fast or faster than the current V8, thanks to the electric part.

It will be lighter than the V8 powered cars.

It will be cheaper, which unfortunately isn't part of the Ferrari formula either.

It will be light, at least for a modern car, but not nearly as light as the F40, F50, and their other good supercars from the 90s.

It will become the next 'poor man's Ferrari'.

    That is bad.

I predict that it will be one of the most anticipated debuts of whatever year it debuts in.

    It will be too slow.

It will be the subject of so much criticism that Ferrari is going to wish they never had the idea.

People will want the V8 back.

    People are going to sue.

Future one-offs are going to look cool but be lousy.

    A V6 is a terrible idea.

    A V6 is a really bad idea.

A V6 will kill the Ferrari brand.

    I am a pessimist.

    A V6 is a horrible idea.

A V6 is an awful, horrible, no-good, very bad idea. Period. Argue if you want.
