- I don't really mean it.

Is it a bird thing?

  • Added note: If I really need to make sure my signal is communicated, I will extend left arm, slap my right hand onto my bicep to sturdy it, and lift my left forearm with my hand in a fist.

    Never fails.

  • I wonder if it’s a self-selecting thing? Do all the women you ride with do this? Maybe the ones who don’t do it know better than to let you in their car. Maybe you make them nervous. 😉

  • Asking real questions, about details no one even payed attention to until now. I adore it.

  • Cobblers man, I flick it with my finger. Absolutely no need to take my hand off the wheel. I think you just did this so you could flick the Vs & give us the ..um...bird...c’mon ‘fess.

  • When Mrs Chronos deigns to use the indicators at all (a contentious issue in which I'm coming from a standpoint of lead by example whereas she's more of a can't beat 'em, join 'em supporter) she tends to do the same as we do, i.e. hand on the wheel and extend a digit or two. I may take my hand off the wheel and do The Claw¹ if it's old school with levers made of six feet of pig iron and an end like a small planetoid in synchronous orbit with the steering column. Rather a moot point these days as vans and trucks tend to have car-like controls - with the attendant multi-function bollocks, plastic crunchiness and the reliability of a Greek banker - and automatic lazyboxes, a far cry from when you had to be a six footer built like a brick outhouse to turn the lights on, never mind heel-and-toe change down on a crash box...

¹ Hand off the wheel, hook lever with claw, pull for left or push with knuckles for right.

    • Approving of footnote.

    • "The Claw" - perfect description of what I do, and reasonable description of its roots in learning on an old-school behemoth.
