Is The CX-30 Just As Good This Time Around?

I had the keys to this CX-30 for a week. Here are my thoughts.

Last year, we were given a Mazda CX-30, the CSUV that was debuted as the brand's new affordable model. In the article, we found out that we greatly approved of it. Since then, some improvements have been said to have been made. So, without further ado, let's find out if this CX-30 is just as good this time around.

Exterior Styling

"...it has a ..."

Compared to last year's model, this CX-30 has candy apple red paint and black-painted wheels. The curves and edges are still beautifully similar. My favorite feature on the CX-30 is the front fascia because it looks like it has a shocked, yet aggressive demeanor.

Interior Design

"...for a quick..."

With the interior design, this CX-30 has cream-colored seats with the piano trim of leather, plastic, and metal. The seats offer plenty of comfort and support. Cabin space is plenty. I can sit behind myself not comfortably, but not uncomfortably either. It isn't tight, but not spacious. Regardless, it is still plenty for a CSUV of this size. And then there is plenty of space in the trunk for a couple of suitcases for a quick getaway vacation.

Pricing and Options

So, how much does this CX-30 cost? After adding everything up, the total price comes to $35,995. What does that get a potential owner? For safety, this CX-30 comes with front and rear side curtain airbags, tire pressure monitoring system, lane departure warning system, lane keep assist, adaptive cruise control with stop and go, rear cross-traffic alert, traction and stability control, multiple airbags, smart brake support, ABS with brake assist, driver attention alert, and blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic braking, street sign recognition, rear smart city brake support, 360-degree monitor, and front/rear parking sensors. For comfort and convenience, this CX-30 comes with a HUD, dual auto A/C with rear vents, Bose speakers, infotainment system with Bluetooth connectivity, heated telescoping/tilting steering wheel, sat-nav, and Android Auto and Apple CarPlay compatibility.

Performance

"...when it comes..."

The 2.5L 4-cylinder under the hood of the CX-30 is finally turbocharged. It produces 227-horsepower and 310 foot-pounds of torque being sent to all 4 wheels. With my driving habits, I was able to achieve 22 miles per gallon. Acceleration was pretty quick for a CSUV with a turbocharged 4-cylinder under its hood. Steering is heavy and direct like an older BMW. Braking is quick and abrupt but the weight can be felt under a heavy load. The suspension keeps everything nice and tidy, allowing for no drama while going over bumps. That's Mazda, they're great when it comes to riding comfort.

Conclusion

"...make a great..."

So, is the CX-30 just as good this time around? No. It is actually better because it is peppier, or as some people would say, "has guts." It is a little pricier than last year's model, but that is because it is a higher model with a turbocharger. It would make a great starter CSUV or for a small family. But I don't think I could buy one.
