Is The e-Tron The Go-To EV SUV?

I had the keys to this e-Tron for a short time. Here are my thoughts.

We live in a world that is changing how cars move from combustion engines to electric powertrains. Manufacturers have been producing EVs of all sorts to go along with this flow. Usually, the first manufacturer that comes to mind when it comes to EVs is Tesla. Audi has come out with the e-Tron to compete against the market of SUV models that are electrically powered. The question for me is this; is the e-Tron the go-to EV SUV? Let's find out.

Exterior Styling

"...the finishing touches..."

The e-Tron on the outside looks fabulous compared to some other models that are offered on the EV SUV market. Most likely because it is made by Audi and in fact resembles an Audi which means by design, it's beautiful. It has sleek curves and edges. It is a bit bulky looking but that is fine. It adds to the finishing touches of the e-Tron. My favorite feature is the rear since the lines, curves, and bit of bulkiness it shows are of supermodel beauty. This is most likely due to the e-Tron being a Sportback with the rear hatch being slightly more inclined and rounded off.

Interior Design

The interior of the e-Tron gives the feel and sense of luxury that should be expected out of an Audi with its natural wood inlays, leather, plastic, and bits of metal trim. The cluster and infotainment area are elegantly done with the screens. The shifter is beautifully designed as well. It is simple and easy to use as well as aesthetically pleasing to look at. The seats are comfortable and offer plenty of support. Cabin space is plenty with me being able to sit behind myself in all seats. The trunk has enough room for a weekend getaway with the family.

Pricing and Options

So, how much does the e-Tron cost? After adding everything up, the total price comes to just $80,600. What does that get a potential owner? For safety, the e-Tron comes with advanced airbag protection, ABS with brake assist, electronic stabilization control, front and rear parking sensors, Audi pre-sense basic preventive occupant protection and forward collision warning and avoidance assist, rear-cross traffic warning, lane departure warning, blind-spot monitoring, and an overall safety score of "5 Stars" from the government safety ratings with frontal crash getting the only "4 Stars." For comfort and convenience, the e-Tron comes with sat-nav, adaptive cruise control, lane assist, smartphone interface with Bluetooth connectivity, Audi virtual cockpit, power heated and ventilated front seats, heated rear seats, four-zone automatic climate control, Bang and Olufsen premium 3D sound system, wireless charging and signal booster, ambient lighting, and nationwide toll collection technology.

Performance

"...a bit laggy..."

The electric motors in the e-Tron produce 355 horsepower and 414-lbs of torque unless "Boost" mode is activated which creates 402 horsepower and 490-lbs of torque for up to 8 seconds at a time. The range of the e-Tron with a full charge can get around 220 miles. Acceleration doesn't seem fast really. It feels a bit laggy, to be honest. The good thing is that it is linear and gradual. Not blistering fast. Ride comfort is amazing thanks to the adaptive air suspension. It makes journeys easier so there are no aches and pains afterward. Steering is not only light but it is also tight and direct. Braking not only regenerates the battery but also stops the e-Tron pretty fast and short. But the e-Tron is an Audi. It is supposed to be this way when it comes to handling. Audi is a luxury manufacturer. Not a performance one.

Conclusion

"...come with a..."

So, is the e-Tron the go-to EV SUV? In short, yes. I'd prefer it actually over almost any other EV on the market at the moment except one. The Chevrolet Bolt EV isn't an SUV. The Audi has all of the right looks, features, and qualities that come with a higher-end price tag. But I would never have one for myself. I'll be the last one probably to give in and buy an EV. For now, I'll be enjoying anything with a combustion motor.
