Is The Hybrid CR-V Any Better Than The Normal Model?
I had the keys to this hybrid CR-V for a week. Here are my thoughts.
I recently had a non-hybrid CR-V, and it surprised me due to it not being as boring as its predecessors. Well, Honda came out with a hybrid version starting this model year to add to the lineup to compete against the rest of the hybrid crossovers. The only question I have is: Is it any better than the non-hybrid variant? Or is it worse or just the same? Let's find out, shall we?
Exterior Styling
"...left to talk..."
The exterior design of the CR-V hybrid has no change in appearance other than some badges be it added on. Acura DNA is still visibly seen everywhere, especially in the grille. Luckily, Ben Stein still has no part in it in any way. And it still is not as boring to look at like it used to be. Since I have already discussed the exterior design and there has not been any drastic changes, there is not anything left to talk about how the CR-V is designed on the outside.
Interior Design
"...the pleasantries of..."
The interior design of the CR-V hybrid is not much different from the interior of the non-hybrid model. There is still some wood trim, metal, plastic, and leather. The biggest difference that can be seen are the gear selector and the cluster set up. Instead of a lever, there is the push button gear selectors. The cluster design is made to show all of the pleasantries of how the hybrid system is working for the driver. The seats are still comfortable. Space is plenty as we know, because there is still no drastic change inside the CR-V hybrid.
Pricing and Options
So, how much does this hybrid CR-V cost? After everything, it comes to $37,070. That is almost a $2,000 difference with the non-hybrid Touring model tested earlier. Options are still the same for safety as well as comfort and convenience. The government gives the overall safety "5 Stars" with only ""4 Stars" going to the frontal passenger crash and rollover categories. Safety for the hybrid CR-V still means that there are plenty of airbags, electronic brake distribution, vehicle stability assist, tire pressure monitoring, rear cross traffic monitor, adaptive cruise control, collision mitigation braking system, lane keeping assist, road departure mitigation, and blind spot monitoring. The interior features still include sat-nav, heated steering wheel and seats, and everything else.
Performance
"...the two variants..."
The hybrid CR-V is different when it comes to what is under the hood besides the obvious. The engine under the hood isn't a 1.5L turbocharged 4 cylinder, but a 2.0L naturally aspirated inline motor. The 212 horsepower that the system powers all four wheels. Everything performance wise that the hybrid model and the non-hybrid model remains the same such as the light steering, comfortable ride, and overall feel after long trips. The difference between the two variants is the fuel economy. In the non-hybrid model, I was able to achieve around 26 miles to the gallon with my driving habits. With this hybrid variant, I was able to achieve an average of 34 miles to the gallon. A difference of 8 miles to the gallon between the two types of power.

Conclusion
So, is the hybrid CR-V any better than the normal model? Well, yes it is. Why is that? The price difference between the normal model and the hybrid model is not very different. $2,000 is not much of a difference whatsoever when one is saving all of that money a year with saving fuel. 8 miles to the gallons in saving should mean extra savings at the pump. Plus, it will help knowing that you are saving the polar bears from drowning. If you believe in that sort of stuff that is. Would I buy one? No. But I can say that if I were to, it would be the hybrid model because I like saving money.
