Is the New Mercedes AMG GT Black Series Worth $400,000
Are the new track focused upgrades worth the price?
2020 has been a year full of surprises and many new releases, Mercedes AMG is one of them. As we were all waiting for a even more powerful AMG, they have finally delivered. The new 2021 AMG GT Black Series. This monster is the pinnacle and definition of practical and useful off the track, but a monster on the track. But is all of this talk, worth the expensive price?
With a new 720hp engine, greater levels of downforce added, and a very adjustable suspension this car has a top speed of 202mph. Thanks to the new 4.0L Biturbo engine it can do the naught to 60 in just 3.1 seconds. You might think that isn't quick enough, but trust me that is very impressive. Mercedes have truly hit this out of the park, and with a new and reinforced AMG Speed shift DCT 7G dual-clutch transmission, this car can roll through the 0–124 mph in less than 9 seconds. Spectacular.
This stunning car has been designed to excel enormously on the track. And it has not disappointed us, the amount of power this engine has is unbelievable. Even if your not pressing the throttle right away, it feels powerful. With the 590 pound-feet of torque revving the hardest at 2000 to 6000 rpm, this car is a beast on the track. With some insane carbon ceramic breaks it gives you the whole race car experience. Which is a great thing, because that's what most people, car enthusiasts and buyers want to experience, a real race car.
But are the track focused upgrades worth the price?
As this car is mostly track focused and centered around the ultimate track experience, it is widely comfortable and practical as well. Which is very significant for the excruciating high price it holds. It is definitely showed and proved to be a great car, but there are some flaws. The mid engine car is a bit trickier to rotate in tighter turns, releasing a lot of understeer. The understeer is probably their for a certain and important reason, but it makes it much more harder to handle in corners while trying to hit the apex.
"It is basically a street legal race car", based on the performance, that is correct. And you might wonder, is this the same as the previous AMG GT's? Has it really improved? Well let me answer that question... no, its not the same, and yes it has improved widely. With current upgrades to reduce weight, increase even more downforce, boost performance, and improve the handling, this car has defiantly succeed at that. Making it one of best if not the best AMG GT ever made.
It has such a brutality that knocks you off your feet, but it still holds that underlying classiness that makes it so utterly cool. Kind of like a new phone that just came out, it has all these new upgrades and fixes, but it is still more exiting then the last one. Most of the parts and pieces were redone with carbon fiber to reduce all that weight, making it so much lighter. With more upgrades such as the new camshafts and exhaust manifolds, and also a new flat-plane crankshaft that allows the engine to rev even harder.
And Hettinger is right, this car is solely based on the amazing upgrades that let it preform so savagely on the track. Everything has been thought of with this car, the hood has been reshaped to manage the airflow even better, the aero has improved much more, also the front splitter, side skirts, that giant rear, are working even better. Nothing has been left out, everything has been noted in this car.
$400,000. That price is absolutely insane, it is a lot. And the the question that everyone is still asking is, it is worth the price? I have to say I think it has and it hasn't proven to be worth that much, $330,000 would be a much more reasonable asking. It is a great car, but when compared to the competitors and the competition, I don't think it is worth that certain price. When people could opt out for a more cheaper GT3 RS. But also..
It can be worth that price. Yes, the price is still unjustifiable, but also its is a AMG track focused car, which every single fan loves. They have to push up the price due to the high value of limited edition cars. Manufactures who have invested their time, money and hearts into these, which means they deserve the money as well. And Mercedes also need business as well, so its a win or lose situation.
Mercedes have worked to provide a even better car, and they keep coming back with something even better than the one before. Mercedes - AMG look forward to the future, they look forward to what they can do better. And they have done that with this car, the 2021 AMG GT Black Series.
