Is the Shelby GT500 finally much more powerful than expected?

This is the amazing discovery after a dyno test!

Under its hood is a 5.2L V8 developing a massive 760 hp. Yes, the Mustang Shelby GT500 is simply the most powerful road car ever made by Ford. With such a motorization, the muscle car does 0 to 62 mph in 3.5 seconds, which corresponds to supercar values!

And while the 760 hp can be impressive, it may actually be that the new GT500 is even more powerful than expected. It was the YouTube channel Speed Phenom that put the Shelby GT500 through a dyno test to see the real power developed by the wildest Mustang.

The session was at the very least hectic with particularly gorgeous engine sounds for any muscle car enthusiast. The results were very positive since the Shelby GT500 would actually develop more power than Ford had estimated. In reality, it is often the opposite that happens!

The beast developed 705 hp on the wheels. But considering the 15% power loss due to the car's driveline, a 760 hp Shelby GT500 would normally develop 650 hp at the wheels. The observed result therefore suggests that the GT500 would produce up to 825 hp, which is 65 hp more than the official figures!

No surprise, since Ford had already stated that the Shelby GT500's engine had enormous potential. Rumors are even saying that Shelby is working on an even more powerful version of the Mustang!

  • 825hp for a stock Mustang that can go around corners, what a time to be alive!

    • One that can corner as well as or better than a certain Italian prancing-horse marque, and can conquer all in a straight line (it already posted a 10.6-second quarter mile time, and the thing had stock tires and the personal owner of the car)

    • Actually it's exactly what it's supposed to be. The GT500 is a monster and an extreme alternative to a supercar, and the GT350 is a mid-priced sports car that handles and sounds better than everyone else's

  • Strange?. In the Netherlands we have a carsite that dynoed dozens of cars, and almost all newish cars over delivered.
