Is this a 964 GT2?

The Porsche 911 Turbo S Leichtbau is quite special and deserves more attention

Yes yes, we know, the 964 generation never got a GT2, it was only introduced the following generation with the 993. However if you think carefully this has the same ingredients as a GT2, turbo, rear-wheel drive, more power and less weight.

When you see this you know it's something special

The 964 generation is loved by many and it got many special versions. The "Carrera RS" name came back and if that wasn't enough we got an extra one with a 3.8-litre engine and a massive wing. Turbo-wise it picked-up where the 930 Turbo left off, with a 3.3-litre engine and a single turbo. Then to spice things up Porsche made the car in question. Towards the end of production came the Turbo 3.6 and then the Turbo S 3.6 which customers could choose to have with a "flachbau" (flatnose).

So taking the 993 GT2 and then looking at the 964 Turbo S Leichtbau, "Leichtbau" meaning light build in German by the way, there are plenty of similarities. It's rear driven, it has more power and less weight than the normal "Turbos", it's raw and lacks the luxury "Turbos" were known for, it also has an exaggerated wide body and beautiful Speedline wheels. Power in the Leichtbau went up to 381hp, up by 62hp over the standard Turbo, a bigger upgrade than the GT2 got, as it received just 22hp extra to reach 430hp. Both weigh about the same at around just under 1,300kg. Like the GT2 it's RARE, only 86 were made, only a bit more than the 57 road-going GT2s made.

Apart from the Speedline wheels another differentiator from the standard Turbo are the intakes by the rear wheel arches.

Not only do these thicc arches house Speedline wheels but they also have air intakes

Both cars are incredibly rare and desirable. One is the fastest single turbo 911 ever made and the other is most extreme air-cooled 911 ever made. One has an aggressive but more classic 911 look and the other has a massive wing and rivets on its wheel arches. Both are stripped-out powerful machines that embody what we love about older 911s.

We have this exact Porsche 911 (964) Turbo S Leichtbau for sale, so if you want to get your hands on the keys for one of the rarest 911s ever made, this is your chance!
