The next generation of the BMW M3 is eagerly awaited. After several spy photos taken in the production plants and a prototype seen at full speed on the Nürburgring, a very interesting image fell on the web. This image from the cover of Motor magazine would be the closest representation of the future M3.
Under the hood, we know that the M3's rear-wheel drive variant will use an engine installed under the hood of the X3 M and X4 M. This engine is an in-line six developing 503 hp in the radical "Competition" versions of the SUVs. This gives us a vague idea of the power of the future M3 and M4. Scheduled for 2020, the new M3 - if it is really the M3 - is making its first appearance here.
Now it remains to be seen whether it is really the M3 G80 or just a very high quality photo montage. Indeed, everything in this picture seems accurate. Body panels, glazing, headlights, mirrors and wheels seem to be in perfect conformity with the latest camouflaged prototypes. Even the huge grille that is at the centre of many controversies is present.
Here, only one detail can raise doubts: the stall of the headlights which is not present (or deliberately hidden) on the camouflaged prototypes. Even that considered, the magazine seems very confident since it displays the car on its cover and even describes this image as "exclusive". Moreover, the copy of this magazine has not yet been published and dates from December... Any more proof that this is the new M3?
