Is this slot car track the best way to spend $20,000?
There's an age old saying, "money can't buy happiness". And for the most part, this has held true over the centuries, sure you could probably pay someone for a bit of old fashioned fun, or buy a Lamborghini, but none of those two can compare to what RM Sotheby’s has to offer you.
"This custom-built slot car track was commissioned by Formula 1 and built by Slot Mods Raceways, based in Detroit, Michigan, U.S.A. Built out of wood to 1:32 scale to an original design, it was shipped to every Formula 1 Grand Prix during the 2018 season and used by patrons of the Formula 1 Paddock Club. Designed for two cars to be used and raced against each other at one time, the track has built-in electronic lap timing and on-track cameras, raising the stakes and adding a little competition to the fun!"
RM Sotheby's have had some cool stuff up for auction over the years, however, even an Aston Martin DB5 can't compare with the amount of joy this would give me. That being said, all the proceeds go to the Reaching the Last Mile Fund, a charity dedicated to eradicating preventable diseases worldwide. Maybe this will make you feel just a little better about spending a truly egregious amount of money on a toy.
Ah yes, the price, I thought we'd get to that. RM Sotheby's estimate that the track will go for $20,000-$30,000 USD. That's more than it would cost you to buy a brand new Mazda Miata, or even one fully-grown giraffe.
