It looks like some people won't be getting their Jeep Gladiators...
Unfortunately, it isn't always easy to transport cars from the factory to dealerships, and in this case, it ended badly. These Jeep Gladiators, Wranglers, GMC Sierras and Chevrolet Silverado's had a bit of a tumble while being transported across the US on a freight train.
This freight train seems to have hit a bump on the rails, resulting in it derailing and spilling all these cars all over Nevada. It almost looks like a scene out of a James Bond film, just more sad. The incident happened at around 5am near Lincoln, just northeast of Las Vegas.
There were a total of 33 vehicles involved in the incident, so you do the maths. That is a lot of moneys worth. On the plus side, no chemicals were spilled so it is just a matter of clearing the cars off of the landscape, but still a catastrophe. This derailment has caused a weeks road closure while the try and move it which I'm sure will mess up a lot of people's lives.
In regard to money involved, I am sure the car companies prepare for incidents like this so I would assume they have insurance to cover this damage but it is the excited owners I feel sorry for. I bet they were really looking forward to picking up their brand new pickup, but it looks like that won't be any time soon...
What would you do if this happened to you?
