It’s Official: Ford will be using Volkswagen's EV Platform
The big global alliance of VW and Ford has just taken a huge step. A step that could make this tie-up, the biggest ever. The two companies announced today that Ford will be using VW's MEB Platform in "at least one pure electric vehicle" from 2023.
Over the next six years, Ford wants to shift over 600,000 vehicles built using the platform. Ford will also be borrowing plug-in car knowledge from US startup Rivian following a $500 million cash injection announced by the Blue Oval a few months ago.
Its not just on EVs that Ford and VW will work together. The two will also be making vans and medium pick-up trucks. While Ford will be engineering and building the latter, Volkswagen will be scratching its head on making a city van.
The third party concerned in this is Argo AI as Volkswagen will be purchasing Argo AI shares worth a total of $2.6 billion from the Blue Oval in the next three years.
