Info, Release Date, Pricing
Mazda has revealed a 30th anniversary edition of their beloved MX-5! Some three decades after the initial reveal at the Chicago Motor Show in 1989, this MX-5 will be a limited edition/production run, with just 3000 cars being produced globally, in the exclusive colour 'Racing Orange'. Here in the UK, we will receive 600 of them; 400 of the convertible and 200 of the RF (Retractable Fastback). Prices will be £28,095 for the convertible, and £29,895 for the RF. 30 years and 1 million plus units sold later, the MX-5 is still the king of roadsters. Mazda's impressive dedication to the car has certainly shown, culminating with this gorgeous MX-5, it is certainly the cream of the crop! It is also the world's best selling 2 seater roadster by the way.
The car comes with the new 2.0 litre Skyactiv-G engine, which now produces 181bhp/184ps, comes with a manual six speed gearbox, Bilstein dampers, strut-brace, a limited slip differential, forged aluminium 'Rays' wheels, developed exclusively for this MX-5 in collaboration with Rays Co Ltd, and also a smart '30th anniversary' badge displaying the unit’s serial number. Other notable features include lovely orange brake calipers, with Brembo front brakes. Internally, there are orange elements and accents as far as the eye can see, giving this car a unique and luxury feel. Take a look in the photos below. Those orange air vents in particular are quite tasty! Apple Car Play and Android auto are also included as standard.
Words from Mazda Motors UK Managing Director Jeremy Thompson
Talking about the launch of this wonderful 30th Anniversary MX-5, Mazda Motors UK Managing Director Jeremy Thomson has commented: “in the three decades since the launch of the original model over 130,000 Mazda MX-5s have been sold in the UK. This is a sports car that has resonated with enthusiastic British drivers ever since its debut and four generations on it’s as popular as ever. Along the way, it has remained true to the original principle of being an affordable, lightweight and above all fun-to-drive roadster. Today it is the very essence of the Jinba Ittai driver-and-car-as-one philosophy that goes into every Mazda." Additionally, he said “and with its unique detailing, generous equipment levels, exclusivity and bold Racing Orange paint, the 30th Anniversary Edition is the perfect way to celebrate three decades of this iconic sports car”. I could not agree more Mr Thompson, iconic is the only way to describe the MX-5.
When can I get it?
