I see a grand tour special , clarkson in the new defender, Hammond in an American equivalent & may probably in an old defender or a Dacia

New Defender, Wrangler and Jimny would be good.
I see more tributes in it to the skoda yeti and the freelander, also sounds like it was made by BT with all that computing power.
What happened to diff locks and low range and all that 4x4 stuff!
Apparently it has all that 4x4 off road stuff: low range etc. We’ll learn more when we get to drive it, I guess.

Read moreMy thoughts are complex. This is THE most informative and illuminating piece on the Defender I've seen. I like the car, I actually almost want one. I think I maybe WOULD want one... If it wasn't called a Defender. Why? Well, it's a bit like the GZ Supra. I like the car, but it shouldn't have been called Supra. Why? Because it takes everything that Supra stood for and threw it in the bin. Supra was an infinitely tuneable 2+2 GT car. It wore it's Japanese heritage like a badge of honor. It knew what it was. The new Supra is a great car, but it's a 2 seater sportscar built in collaboration with BMW. That isn't Supra, it's something else. This Defender sounds incredibly impressive and well thought out. But it isn't a Defender. The seating position looks normal, it doesn't have a chassis geefully rotting away as you drive it. It doesn't have rivet heads showing on the body work. It's probably got a reasonable NCAP rating. I feel like Land Rover are basically trying to flog their new flagship SUV on the name of the medieval tank the old Defender was. It's like a betrayal. It seems wrong. It's a great car, but it bears no resemblance to a Defender. So it's categorically OFF my car shopping list.
So buy a Grenadier !!
