Jaguar announces electric I-Pace racing series at the Frankfurt Motor Show
The all electric I-Pace will get its very own racing series in support of Formula E in 2018/19
Jaguar has taken us all a bit by surprise with this announcement, as for the 2018/19 Formula E season, the I-Pace electric SUV will get its very own single-model racing series as a supporting event.
The Jaguar I-Pace eTrophy races will visit cities like Hong Kong, Monaco, Berlin and New York to name but a few as a supporting race to the main Formula E racing. Jaguar has been competing in Formula E since 2016. A total of 20 I-Pace modified race cars will be taking part in each round with one ‘VIP’ driver taking part in each.
All of these racing I-Pace’s will be outfitted by Jaguar’s very own Coventry based SVO Team . No technical details have been revealed but expect these silent racers to be pushing around 395bhp with power from the electric motor and 90kWh lithium-ion battery.
What we do know from a peek at the prototype on the floor at Frankfurt is that you should expect a massive fixed rear wing and diffuser for the track along with safety elements including a stripped out interior and roll cage.
This launch is to fill out the weekend schedule of Formula E, which has not featured a support race to date after the driverless Roborace series was delayed. The eTrophy could be the first FA-sanctioned international race series that uses production-based electric cars. It’s not the first all out electric series though with that honour going to the Electric GT series which uses the Tesla Model S and starts in November 2017.

Still don't care about electric racing cars. And why an SUV? I want to see an v8 F-type serie
how does this work? the last one running at the end wins?
It's all about the skill of the driver, instead of how competitive their car is
rather watch a touring or F1 race in that case instead of dreary and soundless jaguar's.
yawn
