Jaguar Just Shut Down Any Possibility Of An M3 Or M5 Competitor Any Time Soon
It's no secret I'm a Jaguar fan. I've mentioned it countless times and in one of my more recent reviews, I said the Ftype is my dream car and has been since 2015.
See? I wasn't lying. But Jaguar just delivered some pretty bummer-tron news to its adoring fans. Do you remember the XE SV Project 8 that tore up the 'Ring? Of course you do. It's the fastest 4-door around the 'Ring depending on who you talk to (Subaru's WRX STI Type RA NBR Special did set a 6:57 lap, but that is a one off). So Jags hold the record for production models still at 7:21.
But here's where the bummer sets in. Jaguar has reported that it won't be making any M3 or M5 fighting variants in the near future, crushing out hope and dreams of an XE-R. Whomp.
From Road & Track:
"...outside of the 300 examples of the 592-hp XE SV Project 8 it's building, Jaguar has no plans to imbue the XE and XF with V8 thunder. Jaguar design director Ian Callum told us as much when we asked him about rumors of a high-performance XF Sportbrake."
"We don't have a super high-performance version of [the XF Sportbrake], unfortunately, which is a shame, but that's the way it is," Callum told us. Then, he explained Jaguar's rationale for not building a V8-powered XF Sportbrake, also confirming that a BMW M3-fighting XE isn't in the works."

That royally sucks, but I do have a sneaking suspicion that this will change from the 2019 MY refresh. At the very least, I'm speculating that the 400hp V6 in the new Ftype 400 sport makes its way into the lineup sometime in the next 1-2 years. I've drive than car and it's an absolutle gem of an engine. Jaguar would be stilly not to put it in the XE or the XF.
