Jaguar Land Rover is developing a new 3D head-up display and it's mind-blowing
The tech engineers at JLR have been working on a next-generation head-up display technology that could project real-time safety information for the driver while also streaming 3D movies for the passengers.
This is next level geek stuff, yes, but it could also drastically improve safety on the road.
This new 3D head-up display will project safety alerts such as lane departure, hazard detection, and sat nav directions with the help of augmented reality, thus helping the driver thanks to an improved perception of depth and messages shown onto the road ahead. Studies conducted in Germany have shown that this sort of technology improves reaction times.
In the future, this type of technology could also be used by passengers to watch 3D movies and 3D displays could offer a personalised experience allowing each passenger to independently select their own infotainment. Passengers in the same car would be able to enjoy their own choice of media, including details and POIs of the journey.
This next-gen head-up display is part of JLR's vision for a "Smart Cabin", using technologies that combine safety, entertainment and convenience as part of an autonomous, shared future.
