The Toyota Mirai swiftly became the favourite car in James May's garage, with the hydrogen-powered car making for one of the most tranquil motoring experiences out there.

But after a year or so of ownership, May has decided to switch things up.

  • He should replace it with the Dacia Sandero

  • Hydrogen is a brilliant idea but it's too limited currently due to cost of the technology and the availability of charging stations. Give it 20 years or so and I think it'll be a lot more widespread (look at the amount of public charging ports when electric cars first became popular Vs now for example)

  • Pity I liked the Mirai more than the Tesla. Though not more than my 2015 Golf GTI. Can’t wait to see what replaces it. Will it be another Electric car? So currently Mr May owns a Ferrari 458 Speciale, an Alpine A110, a Porsche 997 Carrera S, a BMW i3, a Tesla Model S and a 1950s Beach Buggy, what will join them?

  • Cheesus James, you made good decision! We should have fun with dirty petrol old cars until they’ll be replaced by clean electric boring... this.

  • I hope he buys a Koenigsegg Regera or Gemera.

    • This is we're talking about. I can't see him purchasing a Koenigsegg Regera. A BMW 750i or an Audi A8 would seem more practical for daily driving.
