James May Says The New Top Gear Is Like "Watching Your Mum And Dad Have Sex"
With Season 2 of The Grand Tour almost on top of us, it's funny to think about how fast everything has changed in regards to Top Gear, Clarkson, Hammond and May, and The Grand Tour.
It feels like no time at all since Jeremy's contract wasn't renewed and Top Gear fans around the world were plunged into the dark ages. But from the ashes of something beautiful, The Grand Tour was born, and the original Top Gear was taken over by Matt LeBlanc, Chris Harris, and Rory Reid. But what do the trio think of the new rebooted Top Gear?
We know Clarkson hasn't watched it and doesn't want to. Hammond hasn't really mentioned it, and May has mentioned before that he's watched it in passing.
At the West London launch of The Grand Tour Season 2, James May told The Mirror this:
"I was watching Top Gear long before I was on it and will continue to watch it long after I'm not on it anymore.
"I was just one temporary custodian of it.
"It's like watching your mum and dad have sex."
He also revealed that the trio's driving on set is pretty poor, and that they usually read scripts while the road and track.
"A bad habit we all have is looking at notes and scripts while we are driving along.
"Somewhere in archives, there are hours and hours of us driving along and just checking our facts and figures before we say them.
"It's terrifying when you realise you're doing it."
