Jean-Eric Vergne & Nelson Piquet Jr to stage charity kart race for Billy Monger
The two Formula E drivers have come together for a charity kart race to support Billy Monger.
Techeetah's Jean-Eric Vergne and NextEV NIO's Nelson Piquet Jr have collaborated to hold a charity kart race for Billy Monger, in a bid to raise 20,000 pounds for the British racer.
The 18-year-old Monger was involved in a horrific crash at Donington Park last month during the British F4 race weekend, which led to the amputation of both his lower legs.
His F4 team JHR Developments had set up a crowdfunding scheme for him, which attracted host of Formula 1 teams and drivers, including Jenson Button, Lewis Hamilton, Max Verstappen and Nico Hulkenberg, to contribute to the fundraiser.
Several of the leading championships also poured in support for Monger, using the #BillyWhizz stickers on their race cars and overalls.
The Formula E drivers Vergne and Piquet decided to organise the kart race at the Frenchman's RKC Karting circuit in France later on Thursday, ahead of the Formula E's Paris ePrix round.
The event is named as 'Racing For Billy', where fans can donate a minimum of 20 pounds and enter into a draw, to win one of the entries to the race.
Each team in the event will have one Formula E driver and two fans chosen from the lottery.
