Jeep Trackhawk vs Tesla Model X P100D vs AMG GLC63 S drag race - who wins?

Who wins this drag race between the most powerful SUVs around? You decide!!

2y ago

We’ve already seen the Tesla Model X P100D make a Lamborghini Urus feel rather pointless in a drag race. The problem was however, the Urus had “just” 640bhp to play with. As the American motorist is acutely aware, there is another SUV that’s quite a bit more powerful than the Lamborghini.

That aforementioned SUV is, of course, the Jeep Grand Cherokee Trackhawk - with its 707bhp supercharged V8 nicked from the Hellcat. Despite weighing in at 2.4 tonnes, the Jeep still has the ability to thunder from 0-60mph in a barely believable 3.3 seconds! That would be enough to keep it hooked to the tail of a McLaren F1 up to 60mph! Very impressive - but is it enough to take the crown off the Tesla. Before I delve into the spoilers, feel free to watch the race in the below video - but before that, please comment which you think will win...

Also included in the drag race was a Mercedes GLC63 S AMG - which itself has 503bhp. Some 200 less than the Trackhawk - but still a tremendously quick SUV, and the fastest SUV to ever lap the Nurburgring. It was there to merely show the difference between a really fast SUV, and the Jeep Trackhawk.

The drag race started much in the same fashion as all drag races that include Teslas: waiting for its batteries to come to the right temperature for maximum attack. After a lengthy wait, the race could finally begin. With the Trackhawk just about managing to pip the Tesla off the line, the Model X eventually clawed its way into the lead. Towards the end of the race, the Trackhawk began to reel the Tesla back in - but the quarter mile was over, and the Tesla crossed the line victorious.

In the rolling race, the supercharged engine in the Trackhawk helped it pick up instantly - but unfortunately for it, the Model X redefines what “instant pick up” means. It once again crawled to a mild lead - but the Trackhawk then started to pull it back. In the end, it was almost impossible to distinguish whether the Tesla or the Jeep won - despite Carwow claiming victory for the Trackhawk.

The Jeep certainly faired better than the Lamborghini - which personally makes me want to see a direct drag race between the two. But regardless, I guess the only way the Trackhawk could establish a certain win were if Jeep updated it to Redeye spec.

Just out of curiosity, if you could pick one of these cars to own, which would it be? Let me know in the comments.

  • One thing I find funny, for all these years people who don’t like American cars have said “well it can only go in a straight line” and now all of a sudden when pretty much all the american stuff can corner pretty well if not superb for cheap and all we see are people drag racing against cars that take 15+min to warm up cuz the tesla can’t do hot laps at max effort lol.

Kinda funny how everyone shifts the goal posts as soon as they get their arguments invalidated.

  • Well the trackhawk is surely cooler for the conventional car guy, the X is for the nerd tech guy saying he likes cars.
