After years of waiting, the Jeep Wagoneer appeared late last week, though the vehicle shown is technically a concept. The final production version won't look much different inside and out. Jeep's future plans for what will be its biggest and most expensive SUV to date are beginning to come to light and, for the most part, we're not entirely surprised by what we're hearing.

According to Motor Trend, additional Wagoneer variants are definitely happening - beyond the Jeep Grand Wagoneer. Sometime following the Wagoneer and Grand Wagoneer's late summer 2021 market debut, a stretched version will arrive for battle against the Chevy Suburban and Ford Expedition Max. A stretched Grand Wagoneer is also happening, specifically aimed at the Cadillac Escalade ESL and Lincoln Navigator L. It isn't especially difficult for Jeep to make the already big Wagoneer even longer because they're all built on a modified version of the Ram 1500 platform. But Jeep isn't stopping there. More, shall we say, extreme variants are currently in various stages of development. You can probably already guess what we're talking about.

A high-performance Grand Wagoneer powered by the 6.2-liter supercharged Hellcat V8 is a very likely possibility. The engineering work required for the Ram 1500 TRX should transfer over quite easily to the Jeep. A 702 horsepower or so Grand Wagoneer Trackhawk packed with luxury and tech will be a direct competitor to the Range Rover Sport SVR, for example. Also expect to see a Trailhawk variant that'll appeal to those who demand an SUV with serious rock-crawling capabilities.

A desert-running Mojave trim is another future variant. All three Grand Wagoneer more "extreme" models will certainly find their fair share of customers, but clearly they're not for everyone. Enter efficiency. The Wagoneer family will also later off plug-in hybrid versions as part of FCA's $10 billion investment plan to add electric motors to some 30 nameplates, such as the also just-revealed Jeep Wrangler 4xe. Half of these vehicles will be hybrids and the other half plug-ins. At present, a detailed model launch time table is not available for everything but rest assured Jeep is moving fast on everything.

Thank you for reading

Thank you for reading today's top news about the new Jeep wagoneer. This Jeep could be a big it not only in the US but in Europe and beyond. This luxury vehicle as I mentioned earlier could end up going up against the likes of Land Rover's Range Rover Sport SVR.

  • Inside is really well sorted. I would love to be in there covering long distances are rapid paces. I just would hate to get out and look back with the realization that I had to get back in. They need to spend more time on that front end and the D pillar. Get back to me and next time include me in the focus group.
