Jeremy Clarkson announces his favourite supercar of the year

He also chose his favourite People's Car of the Year!

Jeremy Clarkson is one of those very few lucky people who has access to any car he wants. By being such a big name in the automotive industry, if he wants the latest and greatest Lamorghini, all he needs to do is ring them up and he'll have it on his drive the next day.

This makes choosing the best supercar of 2020 quite a difficult task, but he seems to have nailed it with this one.

As many of you will know, Clarkson has his own column in The Sunday Times where he talks about and reviews cars. This is where he announced his favourite supercar of 2020 and you won't be disappointed.

So, what did he choose? He voted the Eagle Lightweight GT as being his favourite supercar of the year. For those of you who aren't aware, the Eagle Lightweight GT is a throwback to the original Jaguar E-Type Lightweight which is a timeless classic which weighs next to nothing (1,017 kg), hence the name.

This updated version of a true classic can get from 0-60 mph in less than 5 seconds and has a top speed of 170+ mph. All this comes from a beautiful sounding naturally aspirated 4.7L straight-six. This engine features an aluminum block and three Weber carburetors and produces 380 horsepower and 508 Nm of torque and is mated to a five-speed manual gearbox of course.

Only two Eagle Lightweight GTs are made each year in the UK, making it one of the rarest and most exclusive cars in the UK. This is mostly due to the assembly of each car taking over 8,000 hours to complete.

Aside from this award, Clarkson also announced his People’s Car of the Year which was the MINI JCW GP. This marvellous little hot hatch has a whopping 301 HP which comes from a TwinPower Turbo 2.0L four-cylinder engine, and can get from 0-62 mph in just 5.2 seconds and has a maximum speed of 165 mph.

These are two mighty fine cars to have come out this year but what would you have chosen? Comment down below!

  • Don't blame him at all. Supercars these days are getting more and more boring and the Eagle is a refreshing throwback to when cars were properly joyous. Been in an S1 E-Type 4.2 hardtop and it was nothing short of magnificent - still fresh of memory to this day.

  • Eagle has been there since Clarkson was still on Top Gear. Does it really count as a 2020 car?

  • Rubbish on both counts

    • Can you elaborate

    • The Eagle is insanely expensive (although I do like it) and just about every credible motoring journalist has totally panned the JCW.

  • Yes, he certainly has. Particularly with Eagle Lightweight GT. Simple naturally aspirated straight-six with something called carburettor and five-speed manual and RWD. Wow, what a novel idea! Why no one thought of this before!
