Join an F1 esports team through the McLaren Shadow Project
McLaren has created a competition to earn a place on its new esports team
McLaren gave us 'The World's Fastest Gamer' competition last year which led to Dutchman Rudy Van Buren getting a seat as the professional simulator driver for the team.
This year, the F1 giants are looking to recruit sim racers for its esports team to take part in the official F1 esports competition next year.
Called the 'McLaren Shadow Project', the endeavour will look to mirror the real (albeit struggling) F1 team.
Worldwide qualification heats start this month, using multiple racing/sim titles like Forza, iRacing and rFactor2, along with the use of HTC Vive VR headsets.
The semi-finals will then take place at McLaren's home of Woking followed by the grand final in January 2019 to decide who will join the McLaren esports team.
Surprisingly, McLaren will also accept entries from more casual mobile games like Real Racing, with the idea being that the competition will reach a wider audience.
