A Florida driver had a close call on New Year's Eve when a street sign flew into the rear window of his Corvette. And the wife of a famous F1, NASCAR and IMSA driver was shaken up.

According to a local media report, the driver of the 2019 Corvette said he “didn’t even see it. It just happened so fast.” In a report the Florida Highway Patrol said the driver was heading home from the gym in Hallandale Beach, near Ft. Lauderdale, around 3:30 p.m. on Interstate 95 New Year’s Eve. The sigh had somehow ended up in the roadway and was hit by another vehicle causing it to go airborne, and into the Corvette slicing through the back windshield.

In total five cars were involved in the resulting melee including an SUV being driven by the wife of reigning IMSA champion Juan Pablo Montoya. She was the lone occupant of the Mercedes-Benz which had a headlight sheared off, and saw the airbags deploy.

Montoya, who lives in the area said his wife was taken to a nearby hospital, but not for injuries.

“Just nerves, like shaking,” Montoya told local media. “She was so scared, you know? It was a big hit.”

        • Most drivers and their families drive 'program' cars given to them by their manufacturer. Others have enough $$$ to pretty much buy what they want 😜 In the case of Montoya, I suspect he has plenty to spend on his wife....

      • Based on the first graf; I figured perhaps Mrs. Montoya was in the Corvette, being driven by someone who wasn't Mr. Montoya. DAH-DAAAAAH!

      • That's just crazy! Must have been a semi that sent it airborne. Sounds like a final destination movie 😳
