June 27, 2004, on the Great Race. Had a lunch break in Leadville, CO. My poor little 1932 Plymouth, with only 65 horsepower, managed to carry me and my navigator, Bob King, to over 10,000 ft. elevation! What a great ride enroute from Jacksonville, FL to Monterey, CA.

  • And also you gotta watch it if you hop out of the car and take of running to get a camera shot! You can't catch that breath up there at all...

  • We've found that 10,000 feet of elevation is really pushing the limit for an old car. Even fuel injected cars suffer at that altitude until the computer figures out what to do with the fuel mixture. We saw several cars huffing and puffing going across Snowy Range in Wyoming this past year. Love that license plate, by the way!
