Just finished up a project in the shop. My wife's 2005 Ford Expedition was making a hellacious racket on startup which turned out to be the timing chain slapping and was also running rough. The running rough came down to the variable valve solenoid was sticking open and thus not adjusting the valves. That was a quick fix in itself. But since I was already halfway there I decided to keep going and fix the timing chain slap. Fortunately there was no damage to the chains, speockets or guides so all I had to do was install two new adjusters and slap it all back together. No more timing chain slap and the engine is running smooth now!
